The
Britannia Project-- www.britanniaproject.com
The BC Museum of Mining is involved in a very exciting development
process. Since 2002, working with many credible partners, plans have been
advancing to revitalize Britannia Beach and the Museum. In the fall of
2003 a formal community planning exercise, called a Charette, was completed
and from this some ambitious plans were formed. This early work can be
viewed at
www.sustainable-communities.agsci.ubc.ca/britanniabeach/
The Museum’s primary goal in the overall Britannia Beach project
is to
improve the image and longevity of the #3 Mill so its important messages
about mining are not overshadowed by limited accessibility and its current
appearance. Utilizing the amenities offered by the proposed state-of-the-art
Innovations and Research Centre, (Natural Resources Canada, UBC) the BC
Museum of Mining will be a world class museum where education, heritage
services and visitor attractions will further an understanding of mining,
its past, present and future.
Currently we are working with significant partners to enable Britannia
Beach and the BC Museum of Mining to reach its full potential.
Hunter Dickenson assists us with membership drives and provides generous
donations.
TeckCominco provides essential assistance with insurance.
