The Thanksgiving weekend is our last weekend we are open until spring. During the winter season tours will operate on an 'on-demand' basis from Monday to Friday only. Please call ahead and we will be able to tell you if we have any tours going. Often there is one tour a day at 1:00 pm. School bookings are accepted by calling 1-800-896-4044 Local 226. The Museum will be closed Weekends until mid-March, 2009.

It's Fall Clean-up time!

We need volunteers to help us with the winter chores and to prepare for school tours. We will be serving coffee and muffins in the morning, along with a BBQ at lunch. Join us to partake in this social event (yes, cleaning can be fun when done among friends!). If you plan to come and volunteer check out the bonus our Chatterbox Gifts is offering. We have a photo contest for kid's under 16 during Spring Break and on Saturday March 22 we will have a "Dino" Easter Egg Hunt with Real Gem Stones. Public tours and pre-scheduled groups are welcome. The hours of operation 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Tours leave 11:00 am,1:00 pm, 3:00 pm on week days. The Mill building has had it's new facelift. Come out and help make our Site look as good. This year we really need many volunteer hands to come out and help us get ready for our main operating season. We have been under construction with new roadwork, utilities upgrade and the Mill building rehabilitation and there are more chores than usual. This is a fun event and we promise you a great BBQ Lunch. A few volunteer hours from you makes a world of difference to the Museum's operating budget. You can feel good that you are helping the Museum move forward! You can paint, garden, build, landscape, sort, clean windows. The list is long and there will be something to your liking. Metamorphosis Evolution. This invitational art exhibit will feature more than 20 innovative and adventurous artists of local, national and international renown. They have each sequestered their creative thoughts pondering their relationship with mining and the mined materials that give them inspiration. The pieces they are exhibiting are unique to this show. August 10 � October 8, 2007. Location will be the 1914 Machine Shop at the BC Museum of Mining. Regular admission applies.

The first of these festivals will begin Feb. 1, 2008, and run to March 21, 2008, with another festival in 2009 and a longer festival, beginning Jan. 22, 2010, to run through the Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Reflections on the Rocks of Hornby Island. The Museum is pleased to present photographs by artist, Fiona Spalding-Smith. Guest Curated and exhibit design by Krisztina Egyed. Fiona's exhibit, Buddha's Eye, a collection of 31 abstract photographs of the coastal rocks of Hornby Island, British Columbia. "I've always thought of rocks as ancient architecture of the world", says Fiona. "Natural structures have been here since time immemorial and as our oldest witnesses they have a lot to say." Come view this amazing and unique art exhibit!
