Checking out the samples

Our exhibits and displays will offer your students the unique opportunity to feel what it is like to be in an underground mine. Students will learn the history of mining in B.C.; the importance of mining in our lives, the equipment and technology involved with mining and understand the basic formation of various rocks and minerals. Donning hardhats, your group will board the underground train and enter into the world of the miner; they feel the cool dampness of the underground, can see how dark a tunnel would be and the see and hear the evolution of mine technology.

We offer hands-on activities that offer your students a fun look into the mining process. Play “Eyeball the Haul”, go digging for real fossils or perform your own mini chemistry experiments with our froth floatation demonstrations.

We can customize your tours to place focus on geology, the environment or community. Simply inform the Museum at the time of your booking.

New Geology Discovery Area

Summer 2007 has seen the total revamp of our Earth Science Discovery Area. Brand new interactives have been specifically developed to stimulate the imaginations of your students, and help develop their cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills. Our ever-popular dinosaur footprints, and fossil rubbing table remain. There are activities suitable for most grades - we've also watched plenty adults enjoying the activities too!
