EPCOR Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant
An Environmental Solution Made Clear

From one of the most polluted areas in North America, to an environmental success story we can all shout about. That’s the essence of the EPCOR Britannia Mine Water Treatment Plant Discovery Centre.

From January 2008 school tours are heading to an exciting new Discovery Centre at the hub of the Britannia environmental solution. Nestled between the impressive ‘sludge cake filter press’ and the slightly scary-sounding ‘clarifier tank’, the Discovery Centre does two things. It lets you understand the environmental issue that plagued Britannia for so long, and then lets you explore the simple, yet amazingly effective pollution solution.

The BC Museum of Mining is running school and group tours to the Discovery Centre. We’ve worked with EPCOR to create a dynamic, interactive, inspiring centre that explores environmental stewardship and the science behind it.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what the sludge cake filter press and clarifier tank are – you’ll have to come along to find out!

Find out more about our school and group tours. At this time we are not offering public tours to this facility, but intend to start these in Summer 2008.
